The Role:

Our client, a chartered professional body dedicated to educating, developing, and regulating actuaries based both in the UK and internationally is looking for a Risk Manager to assist the Head of Risk in maintaining a comprehensive risk management framework, including managing operational risk registers and reporting on the overall operational risk profile.

This role involves collaborating with department heads to provide expert risk management guidance, ensuring all operational functions can effectively identify, mitigate, monitor, and report risks hindering their objectives.


  • Assist the Head of Risk in enhancing the enterprise-wide risk management framework.
  • Aid in establishing a strong controls framework under the direction of the Head of Risk.
  • Lead the operational risk management process, conducting quarterly risk review meetings with department Heads, maintaining operational risk registers
  • Identifying and categorising risks, including emerging ones.
  • Assessing the impact and probability of risks.
  • Identifying mitigating actions.
  • Monitor and ensure the effectiveness of mitigating actions.
  • Develop and maintain formal reporting on the operational risk profile.
  • Offer expertise, guidance, and support on operational risk matters, including internal audits.
  • Challenge operational risk practices constructively.
  • Conduct targeted risk analysis, deep dives, and scenario exercises as needed.
  • Contribute to promoting risk management awareness and education.
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Head of Risk and serve as their deputy when required.


  • Thorough understanding of risk management tools and techniques acquired through experience at the Risk Manager level.
  • Self-motivated individual with a track record of leading operational risk management tasks, including facilitating risk reviews, maintaining risk registers, and reporting on risk profiles.
  • Possesses a wide-ranging grasp of product types and associated processes/controls within a membership organization, discerning potential risks both internally and across the actuarial profession, and comprehends how environmental changes can impact risk exposure.
  • Strong technical knowledge in operational, IT, and project risk management and control.
  • Proficient in identifying and reporting on risk contagion and aggregation.
  • Experience in risk management within complex environments, such as professional services, is advantageous.
  • Holds a relevant qualification in risk management or demonstrates equivalent expertise through practical experience.
